Presidential Letter Between Declarations and Dreams
Dear friends and members,
We are very close to the end of this year 2024, in which I have received your support to preside over our scientific society until 2027. Thank you very much. I hope to live up to your trust.
Among our achievements, we are very proud of our past 8th annual congress in Mallorca, Spain, with almost 2000 attendees from 27 different countries.
Recently, at the invitation of WPA President Dr. Danuta Waserman, we introduced our scientific society, the WADD, at the Psychiatry World Congress in Mexico City, where we shared our message of integrating mental health and avoiding the ‘wrong door syndrome’ for our patients and their families.
We have also achieved the ‘Agreement of the Americas’, which we have signed together with the most prestigious scientific societies focused on mental health, such as the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), the American Psychiatric Association (APA), the Latin American Psychiatric Association (APAL) and WARMI. Our first joint initiative will be to share the award in tribute to Pedro Ruiz.
Next year our annual congress, a joint meeting with the Canadian Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (CAAP), will be held September 4-6 in Vancouver. I look forward to seeing you all, face to face, in that beautiful city.
In 2025 it will be 10 years since the creation of the WADD, chaired by our deeply missed friend and colleague Pedro Ruiz. I am sure that one of his dreams was to see the WADD recognized as a scientific society of worldwide prestige.
Together we will make it possible and thus be able to help so many people suffering from addictions and other mental disorders and their families.
Using scientific evidence provided by clinical neuroscience and the achievement of precision psychiatry, will continue to transform healthcare for people with dual disorders in the coming decades.
My Best Wishes to all.
