Dr. Alan Ivan Green, MD passed away on the morning of November 26th 2021, after a long battle with cancer. For those who might not know him, Dr. Green was a leader in psychiatry research & spent most of his career at Harvard and Dartmouth. He was the Chair of Psychiatry at Dartmouth and a dual diagnosis researcher. He worked hard to improve the lives of patients with co-occurring schizophrenia and substance use through his clinical practice & clinical, preclinical & brain imaging research. His clinical trials and theoretical frameworks on the topics have greatly improved treatments for patients.

Tribute Dr. Alan Ivan Green by Leo Sher

I am deeply saddened by the passing of Alan Green. Alan was a gifted, honest and righteous Jewish man. Alan was dedicated to helping people. He was helping patients to get better. He was helping colleagues to achieve their career goals. Alan was a real, creative scholar. His research studies and scholarly publications have contributed a lot to our knowledge. For example, Alan’s publications on the treatment of schizophrenia and comorbid substance use disorders opened new avenues for research and clinical work in the field of dual disorders. I will miss Alan greatly.
